Karen Rosalie Cox Johnson
by Lloyd Ann Caston
I am here today to tell you a little about the Life of Karen Rosalie Cox Johnson. Some of you will know some of what I have to tell you and some of you will leave here knowing more about her than you ever did. Others of you will have unique memories of her, that I never knew of, or that were just between the two of you or that time will not allow me to mention.
Karen has affected each of our lives in so many different ways, it is difficult even knowing where to start, so I will start with my first real memory of her….
When Karen was just a kid, She was definitely a Daddy’s girl and a little spoiled. She was used to being Read the rest of this entry »
Mom’s are wonderful…It is Mother’s Day soon. Everyone who has a Mother should honor her. Not just on Mother’s Day but every day.
How do Mother’s teach you things? What did I teach my own kids? Where did I do good, and where did I do wrong? What else should I have taught them? Have I now gotten so old that I no longer teach them anything? Or are the tables now turned and they are teaching me? Do I teach them by example or do I just say it and expect them to do it the way I say, even if it is not how I am?
I taught my children not to “puke” anywhere near me! Read the rest of this entry »
What did one flea say to the other flea?
I don’t know….What did one flea say to the other?
“Shall we walk or take a dog?
It is in the wee hours of the night that God seems to get our attention and we actually listen. Isn’t it something when you fall into bed exhausted, you sleep for an hour and you come instantly awake. Is that you God? Am I supposed to be praying for someone? So you pray for whoever comes to mind….but you still don’t sleep….OK, might as well get up, because laying here is just nuts. First you grab something to eat, and then you sit down and either click on the TV or grab a book or a Bible. I click on the TV. This night I happen on an inspirational channel…Whatever. So you watch and pray about what am I supposed to learn from this? Sometimes certain words ring true, you feel Holy Spirit kind of shines his light on something. In this instance the speaker was talking about where you are blessed. He said that when you are where you are supposed to be, then you will find a blessing and prosperity there. OK….so I know I am where I am supposed to be. Yes, I do know there are times when I wonder if there isn’t something else I am supposed to be doing. Perhaps I do, but I don’t see how I can make a living doing it, so I just put it in my “maybe I will consider this later” file. Read the rest of this entry »
I am not sure why I have decided to write today….I guess the news, and the leftover flood debris, the inability to have a magic wand to make the mess leave or Calgon to just take me away! (I don’t have a bathtub either….well, I do have one, but it is in the garage and not hooked up to water) Whatever the case, I have things to say, and you are welcome to listen. If however you have better things to do than read my musings, then go do it! I am not sure you will gain anything by what I have to say…but I am going to say it! Read the rest of this entry »
And now I will show you the most excellent way:
If I speak in tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give up all I possess and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.
Love is patient; love is kind; it does not envy; it does not boast; it is not proud. It is not rude; it is not self-seeking; it is not easily angered; it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will pass away; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection, then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love, but the greatest of these is love.
– I Corinthians, chapter 13
Matthew 7:7 Ask and it shall be given to you; seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you.
Matthew 7:8 For each one who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, it shall be opened.
Matthew 21:22 And all things, whatever you shall ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive. Read the rest of this entry »
An atheist scientist came to God and said, “We’ve figured out how to make a man without you.”
God said, “OK, let me see you do it.”
So the atheist bent down to the ground and scooped up a handful. But God stopped him and said, “Oh, no you don’t. Get your own dirt!”
I am told that an Indiana cemetery has a tombstone over one hundred years old that bears the following epitaph: “Pause Stranger, when you pass me by. As you are now, so once was I. As I am now, so you will be. So prepare for death and follow me.” An unknown passerby read those words and underneath scratched this reply: “
To follow you I’m not content, Until I know which way you went.” (J.M. Kennedy)
